Abstract
In the present work, the thermal heating and cooling behaviour of a single-crystal superalloy containing 2wt-% Re was tested to investigate the γ′ dissolution process, and the surface recrystallisation behaviour of the grit-blasted superalloy was investigated near its ultimate service temperature of 1100°C by EBSD and TEM. Particularly, the aged samples were vertically polished to reveal the progress of the discontinuous precipitation reaction front. The microstructure characteristics, including grain orientation, grain size, texture and TCP phase precipitation, were revealed for a detailed understanding of the surface crystallisation behaviour of the material.
