Abstract
In France the historical dominance of psychoanalysis has brought an original way of thinking about the use of theatre and drama for therapeutic goals. Two important schools developed in the 1970s and 1980s: the French psychoanalytic psychodrama, distinct from Moreno's, which has introduced many useful concepts particularly for group treatment; whilst the ‘therapeutic mediations’ have constructed major theoretical and clinical thoughts. After explaining these concepts, the article explores several dramatherapy structures based on them. It ends with a critical analysis of this psychoanalytic orientation for dramatherapy.
