This article developed from a talk given at the conference “Who's that behind you? The Cultural Background of the Dramatherapist and its impact on the Therapeutic Relationship”. Understanding one's own culture and that of your clients is of utmost importance. It gives the work a context and an understanding with regard to particular issues that might arise. A case study has been used to illustrate the importance of the relationship. In my belief, it is the therapeutic relationship that holds the importance and the authenticity of this. Culture is one aspect of this relationship. A pseudonym has been used to observe client confidentiality.
