Abstract
A partial equilibrium analysis of the classical von Thünen model of crop rings in the presence of a market access route is provided. Simple geometric methods are used to derive the boundaries of production under several different specifications of the impact of the route on accessibility. The new model allows for analysis of differential impacts of the route in a two-crop system. It is shown that the growing area for one of the crops can actually shrink after the route opens, if there are disproportionately lower freight rates for the other crop.
