Abstract

The Dictionary of Veterinary Nursing by D R Lane and S Guthrie (Butterworth-Heinemann) is the first dictionary aimed specifically at veterinary nurses. Previously, veterinary nurses have relied upon other publications aimed at human nurses or veterinary surgeons. The drawback of these dictionaries is that many entries are not relevant to the veterinary nurse. The arrival of The Dictionary of Veterinary Nursing enables veterinary nurses to have an informative and specific reference book. Apart from the usual alphabetical terms, there is an abundance of further information in the form of appendices at the back of the book such as haematology and biochemistry parameters for dogs and cats, anaesthetic circuit factors, mathamatic formulae and much more. There are also many helpful diagrams throughout the book. All the information in this dictionary will be useful for veterinary nurses at all stages in their careers—whether they are 1st year trainees or diploma candidates. This would be an extremely valuable addition to any individual's or a practice library.
