Abstract
Transdermal drug administration has become more widely used during the past several years. In addition to nitroglycerin, scopolamine and estradiol have been incorporated into small adhesive patches that attach to the skin and deliver a continuous controlled-release amount of medication. We report a case of a woman who developed allergic contact dermatitis to an estradiol transdermal system. Further testing showed the allergen to be ethanol, which is a component of the drug reservoir layer.
