Abstract
Two men employed as painters and paperhangers showed a long-standing contact dermatitis of the hands and nummular eczema of the arms and legs. Patch testing using the standard series yielded a positive reaction to Kathon CG. Concomitant contact allergy to 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one was found in both patients. The occurrence of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one was not declared on all of the paints to which the patients were exposed, but its presence could be shown by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis using a new method presented in this report.
