Abstract
Metal allergy is a common cause of both acute and chronic dermatitis. This review examines the changing prevalence of metal allergy, methods of patch testing with metals, features of airborne and photoallergic contact dermatitis to metals, the role of dietary metals in metal allergy, and novel therapeutic attempts for metal dermatitis. Metals rarely reported to cause metal allergy are specifically reviewed.
