Abstract

Photographs taken at approximately 52.8188°N, 110.8806°W near Wainwright, Alberta, Canada. These photographs show a Canadian Armed Forces Brigade Medical Station (BMS). This mobile medical facility was established by 1 Field Ambulance in a military training area for 8 wk during the spring of 2019 in support of annual validation and training exercises. The BMS was staffed by a multidisciplinary team of Canadian military clinicians, including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, medical technicians, preventative medicine specialists, and a physiotherapist. The facility operated 24 h·d-1 and offered a range of services, including primary care, emergency care, point-of-care ultrasound, point-of-care bloodwork, and admission for 48-h observation. The BMS also supported smaller medical facilities embedded with mobile fighting units. During these exercises, the BMS was disassembled and moved multiple times by the clinicians who operate in the facility. The BMS managed hundreds of patient encounters ranging from prescription refills to polytrauma and participated in frequent trauma and mass casualty simulations.
