Abstract

We express our appreciation to: all speakers and authors; Loren Greenway, PhD, Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) CEO; Teri Howell, WMS administrative director; and other WMS staff for their team effort in the development and execution of the WMS preconference “Tactical Combat Casualty Care: Transitioning Battlefield Lessons Learned to Other Austere Environments,” held during the Seventh World Congress of Mountain & Wilderness Medicine in Telluride, Colorado, on July 30–31, 2016. Furthermore, we are most grateful to Terri Monturano, senior publisher of science, technology, and medical journals at Elsevier Inc., and to the editorial board of Wilderness & Environmental Medicine for their support in the development and publishing of this special edition of 19 articles from these presentations. Without the professional and committed service of the journal’s reviewers, guest editors, and the tremendous organization and oversight of Alicia Byrne, managing editor, and Neal W. Pollock, PhD, editor-in-chief, this special edition would not have come to fruition. We thank all of you for your service in the completion of this project.
