An international trip is frequently viewed as a rite of passage in the months preceding graduation from medical school. Self-proclaimed “jefes de las montañas” Bill Brandenburg, MD, Brian Locke, MD, and I chose to attempt a climb on Monte Almirante Nieto in Chilean Patagonia (50.95948° S, 72.95642° W). Despite wind gusts exceeding 80 mph and a rapidly advancing storm, we scaled up to a stunning view of the massive granite spires of Torres del Paine. April 5, 2016. Photograph by Tom Califf, MD.
