The Abstracts of Current Literature report describing the article “Ibuprofen Prevents Altitude Illness: A Randomized Controlled Trial for Prevention of Altitude Illness With Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatories” by Lipman GS, Kanaan NC, Holcks PS, et al (Wilderness Environ Medicine 2012;23:293) originally in Annals of Emergency Medicine cites an incorrect odds ratio. The WEM report states: “The incidence of AMS was 69% in the placebo group compared with 43% in the ibuprofen group, with an odds ratio of 0.9, and number needed to treat of 4 to prevent 1 case of AMS.” The study actually found an odds ratio of 0.3, not 0.9 as quoted in the abstract review.
