Abstract

“These honorees exemplify the heart of JALA's foundation…”
In the spirit of multidisciplinary research at the interface of fundamental science and engineering and technology translation, it is with great pleasure that we announce this year's JALA TEN. These honorees exemplify the heart of JALA's foundation, which seeks to highlight important discoveries that will impact the multitude of disciplines that our audience seeks to innovate, including laboratory automation, microfluidics and nanofluidics, drug screening and discovery, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and diagnostics.
This year's featured discoveries come from all over the world, which is a fitting representation of the importance of viewing the inspiration behind technological advancement as an international effort. New methods of patterning and manipulating fluids in microfluidic devices, fully integrated point-of-care blood cell count systems, droplet-based biomarker detection and pathogen identification, photothermal nanoblades for intracellular cargo delivery, degradable microneedles for transdermal administration of the influenza vaccine, and new ways to combine de-aggregaton and surface functionalization of nanodiamond materials are some examples of the transformative approaches that are featured.
The editors and scientific advisors of JALA thank the nominators for helping to shine a spotlight on these outstanding studies, and we are pleased to present the honorees that are helping to shape the next generation of transformative technologies for biology and medicine.
Sincerely,
