Abstract

JALA sincerely regrets that the paper entitled “A Novel Applicator Design for Contact-Free Delivery of Aqueous Reagent to Individual Biopsies in a Tissue Microarray” by Dylan Gunn, Jared Slobodan, Cheyenne Kamran, Justin Tzou, David Broemeling, Diponkar Banerjee, and Andre Marziali (pages 277–283, JALA 12.5 October 2007) was published with four notable errors:
* Figure 6 (page 281) showing a plot of the droplet size versus retraction speed should be replaced with the current Figure 9, illustrating the necking mechanism that results in a reagent droplet forming on the tip of the pin. The current caption on Figure 6 is correct.

Reagent droplet formation detail.

Staining of biopsies with food coloring achieved using the first pin design. The variation in the shape is due to the initial shape of the biopsy. (A penny in the background indicates the size of the biopsies.)
* Figure 8 (page 281) showing stained biopsies with a penny in the background for scale should be replaced with the current Figure 6, the plot of droplet size versus retraction speed. The caption should be changed accordingly to the caption for the current Figure 9: “Droplet size versus retraction speed. …”

Droplet size versus retraction speed from reagent well.
* Figure 9 (page 282) that illustrates the necking mechanism should be replaced with the current Figure 8, which shows the stained biopsies with a penny in the background. The caption should be changed to “Staining of biopsies with food coloring …,” which is the caption of the current Figure 8.
* The reference to Figure 6 in the first paragraph of page 282 should be a reference to Figure 7, the magnified picture of the pin tip with a reagent droplet.
Please see the correct figures with captions below.
