This paper examines the interface between information technology (IT) and relationship marketing. In particular, it aims to ascertain the extent to which relationship marketing and technological development are synchronous in terms of organisational development or asynchronous as some commentators have suggested. To achieve this goal this paper looks at the advances that have been made, the areas where incompatibilities exist between the two fields and the opportunities that are present but have not been fully exploited.
