Meeting Proceedings
The AAFP Meeting Proceedings Book has grown and now includes an increased number of PowerPoint Presentations and handouts. If you attended the 2005 Winter Conference in Puerto Rico, or the 2005 Fall Conference in Chicago, you received the new, improved book which allowed attendees to take notes right next to the slide to which the speaker was referring. The book contains numbered tabs so it is easy to locate the sessions, take notes and refer back to your notes when you return to your practice. Due to the increased size and cost of proceedings book, we will not be providing a CD as part of your registration fee. The Meeting CD may be purchased separately during or after the meeting.

The AAFP makes every effon to secure the best possible rate for overnight accommodations. This rate for overnight accommodations is part of a negotiated event package that incorporates meeting room rental, meals and breaks, as well as other services associated with conducting the AAFP event. If the AAFP does not achieve the minimum number of overnight accommodations required in the overall event package, it affects the price of other services associated with conducting the AAFP event. This, in turn, impacts registration fees for future programs.

The Great Cat Watch, for Wellness Sake
People want their pets to be healthy, but sometimes it's hard to really know if they are
sick, especially with cats.
Even though there are more than 90 million cats owned in America, outnumbering dogs by 20 percent, cats visit the veterinarian half as often. James Richards, DVM, AAFP Immediate Past President says when dogs become sick, clients may realize it, but when it's a cat, it's not always so easy to see. “Cats are designed by nature to hide their illnesses. But you can watch for changes in normal routine or behavior,” he adds.
According to the recent American Association of Feline Practitioners Behavior Guidelines, behavioral changes may be a subtle sign of sickness. Normally, a cat sleeps 16 to 18 hours a day, uses the litter box when needed, drinks water and eats food regularly. Clients should be aware of changes in sleep patterns, activity level or even lack of playfulness. Eating less or more than usual or unexplained weight changes should also be noted.
The best way to keep cats healthy is to help them from getting sick in the first place. An important way to do this is to encourage clients to take their cat to the veterinarian every six months for a wellness exam. By making twice yearly check-ups a healthy habit, they can help protect their cat's health.
