Direct mail firms can deliver a shipment within hours of receiving an order by using the logistics systems of U.S. air express services. This article describes how some direct mail firms have extended their order cutoff times to as late as 3:15 a.m. for delivery that same day, by moving their warehouses to the hub airports of air express firms. These firms have emphasized customer service and decreased levels of perceived risk in order to survive increased direct marketing competition.
